Elestor’s Flow Battery: Power from seawater
Arnhem-based Elestor participated in Vakbeurs Energie in the Brabanthallen, Den Bosch. during this exhibition, the brand new stand was well visited. Floris van Dijk enthusiastically told our camera about their exhibition experience and the latest developments in Elestor’s Flow Battery technology! The innovative flow battery ensures a constant supply of green energy, even when there is no wind or sun. People are well advanced in the development of this flow battery and its practical applicability has been proven. Bromine is extracted from seawater and hydrogen is the most common element. Both are available everywhere and in abundance, making you completely “independent” of location or geopolitics and not relying on the scarcity of alternative resources. Using electricity to split hydrogen bromide into hydrogen and bromine recharges the battery and provides power when hydrogen and bromine come back together. This amazing technology is scalable, relatively inexpensive and provides for large-scale storage of green generated electricity by (offshore) wind and solar farms, for example. Such energy storage systems will undoubtedly play an important role in the transition to a more sustainable future.
